AMD talks up eight-core game

CES 007 Torrenza, Fusion and R600 mentioned in dispatches
Sunday, 7 January 2007, 21:59
IAN McNaughton, AMD's senior marketing manager, pre-announced that AMD will get to eight core processing in the second half of this year.

He didn't go into details but we think he is talking about two CPUs Quad FX platformance with a quad core CPU each. This gets you to a total of eight cores and this is where AMD wants to go, for its own reasons.

Naturally, he also talked about the "Torrenza" concept with two CPUs, two graphics and a physics card that is set to come in 2007.

Dimelow is the head of the conference
but this is Ian McNaughton, ATI-AMD, above

He also, once more, "pre-announced" the Fusion - a CPU on GPU concept that is set to come in late 2008, promises AMD. He also mentioned the second generation unified shader. Sometimes, I wonder whether these marketing guys will ever give up. [No, Ed.] ยต
