WE GRABBED A chat with some Sony guys responsible for the drive business.

Of course they were peddling Blu-ray drives and we heard that a 2X Blu-ray drive has been available since October 2006. It sells for around €800 and it can record at 2X only. The good point is that it can record 50GB discs at this speed.

Sony is working on a 4X drive and it will introduce it later this year. It will be able to record 50GB dual layer drivers at this speed.

The firm also plans to introduce a successor to its AW-G170A 18X DVD recorder and the new one will support the Lightscribe marchitecture.

Funnily enough, the Sony lads reckon Blu-ray is about to take off with Playstation 3.
