Intel's future desktop mobo lineup planned

Plans for micro, pico BTX
Fri Mar 25 2005, 11:27
AS WE SAID in an earlier article today, Intel won't be shifting that many of its own brand motherboards to the BTX form factor this year.

See BTX boards get thumbs down from Shuttle.

But Intel clearly has ambitious plans to use the BTX form factor extensively next year, according to notes we scribbled after we saw its latest road map last week.

Intel's motherboard plans are more flexible than for its microprocessors - it can readily switch its forecasted boards depending on what the market is demanding and what its competition is doing.

But right now it's clearly planning a major BTX blitz in 2006, and no doubt hoping it will drag its customers who license and use its motherboards, those that make cases, and those that make coolers, along with it. µ
