Xmax tech travels 18 miles at low power

Better than 802.11 WLAN, says man
Thursday, 2 February 2006, 09:50
XG TECHNOLOGY claimed it has transmitted a 3.67Mbps signal for over 18 miles using 35 milliwatts of power.

And it said that the kit was tested by an FCC authorised lab earlier this week and is compliant with federal regulations.

Roger Branton, COO of XG said: "Our equipment can transmit high data rates over long range at low power" for broadband deployment.

The firm also said that an xMax unit was used to transmit full motion at a distance of 100 feet using 300 nanowatts of transmitted power. That, claimed Joe Bobier, inventor of xMax should be compared to typical 802.11 WLAN technology which "transmits up to three million times more power".

The firm claimed products will be available by the end of the second quarter.
