John Romero says only Wii will survive

IN AN INTERVIEW given to Adrenaline Vault John Romero, legendary game developer from the very beginnings of 3D games, gave his his opinion about the next five years, and his answer surprised a lot of console fans out there, who went on to blast Romero one more time.

The quote is the following:

"Right now MMOs, mobile and PC episodic are really polarizing into the newest most important segments in gaming. Next-gen console is big but its future isn't too bright with the emergence of cheap PC multi-core processors and the big change the PC industry will go through during the next 5 years to accommodate the new multi-core-centric hardware designs.

"My prediction is that the game console in the vein of the PS3 and XBOX 360 is going to either undergo a massive rethink or go away altogether. The Wii has the perfect design for a console that doesn't pretend to be a PC and is geared more toward casual gamers than hardcore gamers. The hardcore gamers are going to either be playing on their PCs or a new PC-like platform that sits in the living room but still serves the whole house over wifi, even the video signal."

The interview has several other great lines, but this particular one generated massive fan frenzy, who are outlashing on Romero on forums and filling his inbox with hate-mail. Sadly for them, Romero can't be called wrong on this one, since the physical dimensions of Sony PlayStation 3 and loudness and low-quality components inside Xbox 360 remind yours truly more about cost-savings done by 3rd tier, pricelist-minded Chinese and Taiwanese companies - rather than multinational conglomerates, such as Sony and Microsoft.
