Outed Apple worm writer 'inned'

Suspect denies it was him
Friday, 20 July 2007, 09:34
THE MAN identified by fanboys and the security community as the bloke who is behind the Apple worm has denied he was involved.

Yesterday, we reported how the security researcher Don Weber, who is known as Cut Out, named and shamed the hacker LMH who was behind the Apple month of bugs project.

Then there was a posting on the Fuzz list where LMH claimed he was David Maynor/>{? However, this morning David Maynor denied it was him. He pointed out that information given to Webber by his anonymous source is factually incorrect. The unmask.py program shows a low likelihood he was the author of the email.

In all the confusion, it seems the original story about a bloke writing an Apple worm has been forgotten. It seems that if the worm exists then the 'anonymous sources' who have tipped off Weber have managed to bury the story in a mix of confusing identity claims.

People incorrectly "named and shamed" are all those who have been finding security flaws in Apple operating systems, which is something that Apple fan boys cannot take, we wonder if it is a coincidence.
