Holocaust denier arrested over internet claims

Charged with computer-related racism
Thursday, 2 October 2008, 06:55

AN AUSSIE HISTORIAN was arrested at Heathrow over his Internet claims which deny the Holocaust ever happened.

Gerald Töben, 64, faces extradition to Germany where he has been wanted since 2004 for "denying, approving or playing down" the mass murder of Jews by the Nazis.

The Aussie was pulled off of his flight on its way from the US to Dubai and held on charges of "computer-related racism and xenophobia".

Töben told City of Westminster magistrates he wouldn't get a fair trial in Germany. He said: "As soon as I open my mouth they will prove I am guilty".

He has a previous conviction for defaming the dead and was even jailed in Germany in 1999 for nine months.

He has claimed concentration camp Jews had swimming pools and brothels. In 2002, an Aussie judge found that Töben's website "vilified Jewish people", and ordered Töben to remove offensive material from his site. µ

Denying stuff

Well, they ask me why it is that I hate living in Europe. For one, Europe has laws against denying something--whether in live speech, online, or merely in one's mind (yes, they most likely don't *explicitly* mention the latter, but I betcha anything they'd be thrilled to add it on paper if only they could enforce it!). I tell them that I don't care what that something is. *Whatever* that may be, a country that has such a law does not deserve to exist, and whoever seriously entertained the idea of making this a law should be dipped in cat piss and set on fire in a ritual setting.

Tosser

Yep ... he is a tosser.

We must have let him in a while ago with the last load of boat people ...

Suffice to say your average Aussie did study history, and it clearly says on the side of the Vegemite Jar that he is incorrect ...

Since he likes to dabble wit hthe written word we will get him to hand write the Torah a couple of thousand times.

That should keep him busy for the next 20 years.

Funny how karma works.

proof

Kinda says it all when he doesn't understand that by providing his own proof of guilt, it actually counts proof.

Not sure what reality he lives in, but I don't have much time for it, send him back to it, by what ever means necessary to expel him from ours.

Good to know.

Hmm, so the germans are still fascist messing with foreigners, good to know there's stability in the world I suppose, and with britain on their side now they have a easier time, yay...
Plus they continue their tradition of violence against the mentally retarded so that's in keep with their tradition too I guess.

freedom of speech

As proven many times - say one bad thing against the jewish and it deserves arrest. Another case of freedom of speech going down the pan.

You can defile any other race / religion and nothing happens (in fact its applauded) but funnily enough mention one thing about the jews and its jail for you.

Prison or Loonybin

I find it really offensive that a person can be put in jail for what they believe even if they have lost their minds. Its not a matter of fact, but self delusion and hurts no one for him to believe that.

On the other hand they should hook him up with some time in a padded room and some good meds to take the crazy out. Hes clearly delusional and needs help.

Im pretty sure in this day and age Jewish folks know what happened. Im pretty sure everyone else get the general idea of the camp conditions and how bad it all was.

I wonder in his mind if he thinks it was all photochopped and green screened. For all he knows the war never happened either?

Mean AND Stupid...

It's an unfortunate consequence of poor genes and bad upbringing. He'll be better off where he can't hurt anyone, including himself...

It's true though..

The holocaust is very overdramatized... a study was recently done, stating that it would be impossible to murder that amount of people in the timeframe of the concentration camps.

The 6 million figure included many germans who died fighting in WW2.

I condemn concentration camps, as they were used on the dutch people in South Africa by Lord Kitchener of Britian in the Anglo Boer War. The death toll reached 64000 women and children. Many were fed glass and hooks in rations.

Yet, have you ever heard of anyone complaining about that?

The holocaust is overrated, as there are many worse events that have occurred, yet it stays as sensitive as ever, and the other events get ignored.

Holocaust or Genocide?

Anybody attempting to turn around historical records of atrocities as a party must be looking at too much military advertisements. (There's no life like it! Rather... bang! there's no life at all!)

Unfortunately the wrong word to describe the horrid historical event (Holocaust) is used. Holocaust's definition means sacrifice with will to do so. The Hutu and Tousi's in Africa had as much choice in the matter as the Jews did.

The right word to use is GENOCIDE similar to Genesis where the account of the Devil murdered humanity is contained.

The word Holocaust was only prescribed to a human host the Savior's account in the New Testament, foreshadowed in the Old Testament.

The denial crackpots are capitalizing on this unfortunate classification inaccuracy encouraged that it's defined roots by definition are wrong, to them, as much as the word holocaust is the right one to use by others.

More scare tactics.

Why can't we discuss the holocaust? Why are Zionists so against discussing historical inaccuracies? It makes me think they're hiding something. If not who cares what some nobody thinks?

The Jews haven't been run out of every country in Europe for nothing. I'm tired of these Zio-bully's. People think Jews have been persecuted for no reason. Just like Muslims blowing themselves up, you have to ask yourself why would someone do something so drastic? We need to look at the cause and find a solution. Not here in America where we're never wrong. They're evil and we're good, please give me a break. It's called relativism and it's something the Neo-Cons are lacking in spades. Fox news and NBC perpetrate the lie and Americans eat it up.

Apple Did The Holocast

Wow, an entire Nick Farrell article that doesn't slag off Apple in any way whatsoever? No snide remark at the end about how Steve Jobs personally loaded up the showers at Auschwitz?

As for the defendant, "As soon as I open my mouth they will prove I am guilty". Keep your mouth shut, then!

Get a clue

"As soon as I open my mouth they will prove I am guilty"

Well stfu for good and everyone will be happy.

Frankly, I can imagine that, in two or three hundred years, there will be people that simply cannot accept that it happened. They will be able to convince themselves that it is all an Internet hoax or something.
But today we have people still alive who have survived those camps. To deny them their own history is nothing short of despicable.
And it's not just Jews. The Nazis happily gassed homos, Tziganes, homeless people, intellectuals, and basically anybody they didn't like (of which there was no shortage).
Denying all those deaths is callous in the extreme. Doing so publicly is well worth prison time.

Wackiness

I find it interesting, I feel compelled to have to interject some kind of sanity in the flood of wacky comments -- I love the Inq too much to let it be perceived as some kind of nutcase retreat, even if it's just to myself; although, I'm sure behind the scenes you lot are all nuts! :P

With words like "homo", "retarded", and the all too poppular "bad genes" as a marker of intelligentsia being thrown around here, how could I resist? (I hope you can see irony in the original comments.)

Comments sections are hardly debate forums for such topics, but they are indicative, and in this occasion, it seems to me, to gauge reaction from certain sectors of the population - atleast, increasingly, I find them to be so.

I suppose the laws in germany have their root in history and popular support. Is it the best solution to the problem? Maybe not.
Has the law run it's course? If my experience is any indication, the answer is no.

Unfortunately, we'd love to have Harry Potter wave his magic wand around and we'd all be sublime on truth and liberty, but it's not clear that will ever happen. And as such, people are bound to repeat history.

It's been fun, thanks!

You see you're doudle standards... it's right there.

So much for freedom of speech, always the bloody double standard. Lock a guy up for his views what about rushdie... i'm sure the muslim folks still want his head, and it's only natural.

And that racist BNP and his comments went as under the freedom banner bulls**t as well.

Basically it's like this, play the freedom card to insult someones belief so you actually cause hurt to him about his religeon or race or whatever and when he get angry play the freedom card when it suits you... remember that kid that got locked up for reading/downloading some, they branded, terrorist meterials..... you see it's like robert mogabi and the way he just changes the law to suite himself and throws all the white men from his country.... you're not very good christins and if Jesus knew about your racist methods he'd roll in his grave!

You get me.
Jon.
