NAND memory chip prices soar

Throttling supply
Tue Jun 12 2007, 17:09
THE PRICE of 1Gb and 2Gb NAND flash chips have risen in recent days by 18.1 per cent and 22.9 per cent respectively, said memory watch site DRAM Exchange.

The reason for the price rise, according to the site, is because chipmakers have throttled production in the face of increased demand for these memory devices.

DRAM Exchange also said that the manufacturers are keeping stocks of 1Gb and 2Gb chips for vendors making units with built in flash.

There's demand from mobile phone companies and channel distributor. Prices are expected to remain high. µ
