Samsung re-boots DRAM fabs after power cut

But it might take a while to ramp'em'up

THE GUYS at Samsung got the electricity switched on at three fabs in Seoul over the weekend after a power cut downed them last Friday.

But, according to the Wall Street Journal, Samsung will take a $43 million hit on the downage and, the report speculates, it may take some time for the fabrication plants to get to full ramp up again.

The report reckons spoiled chips might need to be pulled from the lines, while re-calibrating the kit could well take a little bit longer.

The production process all seems a tad fragile, doesn't it? Fourteen out of Samsung's 16 chip fabs are in Korea, and many are located close to each other. µ
