Altavista crawler runs at 0 MPH

Crawl slows to stop
Mon Oct 22 2001, 16:05
AN ARTICLE ON IDG.NET has confirmation that Altavista, once the favourite search engine, has not updated its indexing since July.

The firm said in a statement that while it had "crawled", it hadn't published the results of that "crawling".

According to Altavista, one of the reasons it has "crawled" so slowly is because the Web site stopped its affliate programme.

Last month 160 staffers were made redundant by Altavista, now owned by CGMI.

Web watchers noticed that when they searched for phrases like "Osama", "anthrax" and the like, they didn't get the results they anticipated.

Altavista is rushing to crawl faster, says the article, which you can find here. µ
