WI-FI hotspots are going to be a thing of the past, thanks to mobile internet gadgets.
Ericsson chief marketing bod, Johan Bergendahl, told anyone who will listen at the European Computer Audit, Control and Security Conference in Stockholm that hotspots will become the telephone boxes of the broadband era.
He pointed out that in deepest darkest Austria the word on the street is that mobile broadband will pass fixed broadband this year.
Among the natives of Sweden, the most popular phone is a USB modem.
One of the main reasons is that mobile broadband is a lot cheaper in Austria, Denmark and Sweden where a connection will set you back 20 Euros.
The thing that is holding back mobile broadband is the fact that carriers have not worked out how to do international roaming and the lack of coverage. ยต
