NOVELL has released Netware as an entirely Linux operation.

Open Enterprise Server 2 which was released yesterday has the NetWare operating system kernel, Netware 6.5 SP7, running on top of the Xen hypervisor.

According to Linux Watch, this makes it possible to run Netware services, or a para-virtualised instance of Netware, on top of Xen with the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP 1 kernel.

NetWare tools such as Consoleone, Imanager and Novell Remote Manager are still there too, along with shedloads of Linux management utilities and terminal programs.

The new OES has Shadow Volumes which is a new technology that uses customer-defined policies to recognise old and new data and stuff it somewhere appropriate. µ
