Smith Micro gets patent for JPG stuffing

A PATENT to improve compression for digital images was awarded to Smith Micro Software, it said.

It was granted US patent 7,184,603 - a "system and method for lossless compression of digital images". This describes a method fr improving compression by applying adaptive techniques and is better than your average compression, said Smith.

The tech is a cornerstone of its Stuffit product line, said Smith. µ
