UK Government to ban the stand-by switch

TELLIES, VIDEO AND DVD players and computer gear will not be allowed to have stand-by switches in Blighty under new energy conservation moves being bought in by the Government.

According to yesterday's Energy Review, more than eight percent of all domestic electricity is wasted by the use of standby switches and so the government thinks it can get rid of the things completely.

Businesses will have to phase out or reduce drastically the energy used by computers, printers and photocopiers which are left in standby mode.

The big idea is that the UK will be able to reduce the amount of fossil fuel it burns at powerstations and reduce emissions by an additional 27 to 31 percent by 2020.
