David "ID card" Blunkett sends love letter to INQ

ID cards "are not a magic wand"
Tue Nov 30 2004, 19:42
TROUBLED MINISTER of the Interior David Blunkett has sent a little note to the INQ telling us why ID cards are a "good thing".

The "good thing" will cost £85 or so and will be compulsory for every single UK citizen when they are imposed on the Queen's subjects.

Further, if you refuse to register, you will be fined £2,500 - underlining John Mortimer's recent observation that David Blunkett is one of the greatest threats to British liberty ever.

Read his assurances on how the UK government will not use the information to build up a profile on innocent people.

Here's what the man has to say to us and presumably to a lot of the rest of us here in the UK. We'd suggest if you get one of these billet doux, you don't fill in the form, but make sure you post the empty form back to Dave. The Labour Party will have to pay the postage. We wonder how the Labour Party got our name and address? Don't they know Michael is called Mike, Dave? µ

Do you think the move was justified?
