There are motherboards for the 800 systems but the Nforce 3 Asus mobo won't be available for the 100 series for a while. AMD says "next month". That starts tomorrow. But if there were going to be boards available tomorrow, Chimpzilla would probably say "now".
The 800 series, as its number suggests, is aimed at the eight way server market but will probably find its first applications if four way servers, as we reported over the weekend.
The 100 series is intended for one way servers and workstations.
Under AMD's number scheme, there will be 840, 842s, 844s, 140s, 142s and 144 chips available now, while systems are already available through its validated server programme from system integrators like Racksaver (which has Celestica make its systems for it), Aspen and Appro.
Prices. The 840 costs $749, the 842 $1,299 and the 844 $2,149. The 140 is $229, the 142 $438 and the 144 $669.
Meanwhile, AMD confirmed our report over the weekend about Celestica building four way and two servers under its "Validated Server Programme", but it didn't supply full details of the Quartet and Serenade systems it will supply in July, which you can read on our site, here. µ
* MEANWHILE TWO sites have some reviews of the forthcoming Asus Nforce 3 SK8N, which for some odd reason we keep wanting to call SKIN. There's one here and another here.
