Gummy disks present new problem for Halo 3

First there was scratching, now there is gumming
Tuesday, 2 October 2007, 11:38

WE ALL KNOW ABOUT the scratched Halo 3 disks, but there is another less talked about problem with the packaging, the hub falling off.

The DVD carrier hub is badly glued on to the metal package, and if you happen to pull it off, it leaves a gummy mess.

Halo 3 Collectors Edition likes its hub

At least one reader didn't even notice this when he put his new Halo 3 disk in to the 360 and ended up with a gummy DVD that didn't want to open. In the end, it is far from a fatal blow for MS, but it is annoying. This package seems to be one of the worst designed since those DVD cases with the side clips. Anyone else having this problem? ยต

Can Microsoft get anything right?

Even the new 65nm Falcon units are as prone to RROD's as the old ones..

Basically everything Microsoft seems to have releases of late, is total crap.

Well I haven't seen this yet, but then I have not tried to get the disk, it has not come out of my 360 since I got it in the mail. I am going to check it out today..

Good catch guys.

Is this a series ?

First they roll out Vista to the enduring indifference of the market. Then they push the brain-dead OOOXML spec so hard it goes through the wall and into the sea. Now they publish Halo 3 and manage to turn one of the year's most anticipated events into a disappointment of epic proportions.
What does it all mean, Ballmer ? You refuse to let anything work right until you get a pay raise ? Is that it ?
Or is it just the lack of oxygen at high altitude ? You gotta close the window of your jet, Steve. Stop smoking those cigars and the atmosphere will clear up.

How to clean it up

I didn't spend the extra money on that version, I just got the cheapest Halo3. But, if you have a problem with a glue making a gummy mess that won't for the lifetime of the universe come off of something- try zippo lighter fuel (I am not recommending the brand name Zippo here) but the kind of fuel that is intended for zippos or anything with a wick. Rosignol or something like that, it comes in a yellow bottle, is easily found most places for cheap.

This fuel acts as an excellent neutralizer of annoying glues like that typically found on a entertainment product. Really nice to be able to remove all the stupid stickers they put on the case of DVD movies.
