Blue Frog's war against hackers spreads

Shares its problems with Six Apart
Thursday, 4 May 2006, 08:04
YESTERDAY we reported how the anti-spam outfit Blue Frog had received a declaration of war from a Russian spam Tsar.

While it seems that while the spammer's claimed ability to hack into the Blue Frog database and expose its customers to even more spam was a little over-stated, he has managed to launch a pretty serious denial of service attack on the outfit.

People logging onto Blue Frog over the last 24 hours have been unable to contact the service.

However by strange coincidence Six Apart websites, which include TypePad and Live Journal have also been off line.

According to a post on the North American Network Operators Group mailing list, during the DoS attack the hostname www.bluesecurity.com was linked to the TypePad-hosted weblog, bluesecurity.blogs.com, here.

It redirected the attack from Blue Securities own network to that of Six Apart. The Six Apart network croaked under the weight of Blue Securities DoS traffic.
