Asus racks up 8800GT with a gig of memory

Loadsa memory, notsoloadsa chips
Thursday, 6 December 2007, 16:51

AS IF GETTING HOLD of an 8800GT wasn't hard enough in the first place, Asus has now launched a version of the popular Nvidia card with 1GB of memory. This is sure to win the battle of the posing pouches, but unlikely to actually ship in any quantity before the Chrimbo holidays.

Asus reckons it's getting its memory from Qimonda and is obviously assuming that the memory itself will be plentiful, even if the Nvidian chips are not.

Over in the U of K, GTs are currently going for £200 or so, a large chunk over Nvidia's estimated pricing.

The 1GB GT card also includes software to overclock the card's shader clock by 10 per cent, so those not quite pleased enough with the insane performance for the recommended price tag will be able to fiddle away to their heart's content.

Of course, the value of all that memory is dubious, given that not even the 8800 Ultra sports that much. But hey, it's all about the specs, right? µ

Palit is releasing one too.

Palit will be releasing one too!

Nice price all considering. Do note there is no information on Palit's website about the 8800GT 1024MB. Now all we have to do is wait around for some benchmarks.
