Word vulnerability number three tips up

International Space Station alerted
Friday, 15 December 2006, 09:33
ASTRONAUTS will be worried to hear that insecurity experts have found another Zero-day vulnerability in Microsoft Word.

It's the third active exploit to surface in two weeks.

SpokesVoles said they are investigating.

So far it has found that the flaw affects Word 2000, Word XP, Word 2003 and Word Viewer 2003. The firm also said that it has received reports of Word v.X for Mac being vulnerable to the exploit, but could not confirm the vulnerability.

Security company Secunia lists the vulnerability as "highly critical," the firm's highest level of security alert.

The organisation recommends that astronauts avoid opening any Word file that originates from untrusted sources or even those files that arrive unexpectedly from "trusted" sources like Ground Control.

It is the third active exploit to be released for Microsoft Word since 6 December. They're all still flapping open. ยต
