WEEE proponents take on Wii producers in battle of bulging landfill

We will not be moved
Fri Dec 15 2006, 13:51
THIS WEEK, the government published its rules for the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive.

Under the rules electrical goods makers will have to pay towards the cost of picking up their waste products.

Of the plan to force the firms to collect stuff like discarded Wiis, science minister Malcolm Wicks confessed, "There is currently no incentive for those that produce them to care about the lifecycle of their products.

WEEE, Wicks wevealed, "will mean they can no longer shirk this responsibility.”

Whether WEEE will force users of Wii to wecycle their toys once they've finished with them remains unclear.

By all accounts, it won't be long.

Martin Weitch puts on his serious voice and serves up more on this over here. µ
