AMD invades Supermicro's home page

Never say never again
Wed Aug 23 2006, 16:52
BACK IN FEBRUARY when we reported that Supermicro had stealthily launched a bunch of AMD Opteron based product, we noted then that it wasn't possible to navigate from the system vendor's home page to those offerings.

Well, that has now changed. An INQUIRER reader kindly pointed out that it's now possible to navigate to the said page directly.

We said in that February piece: "So Supermicro has jumped into the Opteron mainboard and barebones market with both feet. But if the company is serious about making market inroads it's going to have to do a far better job of marketing its Opteron based product.

So what caused Supermicro's change of heart? Common sense must have prevailed even in the face of the enforcer men in blue.

From a company that said it would 'never' do AMD processor based product, Supermicro has certainly surprised us all once again. µ
