INTEL ANNOUNCED 16 new chips in Vegas today including its first 45nm mobile offerings.
The firm also said that amongst other things the chips "help the environment ". They don't.
It said it wants the build devices based on the wee chips that deliver broadband Internet access "in your pocket." We doubt that'll do much for your nadgers.
It said the processors are up to 25 per cent smaller than previous versions, "so computer makers can create sleek, new designs for consumers". However, as chips have previously gotten smaller their heatsinks have gotten bigger. We expect this is still true.
The firm said four dual-core 45nm-based desktop processors PCs will begin to arrive later this month. Three quad-core offerings will follow and five new chips are for Centrino systems, it seems. Four Xeon server chips are in the mixed bag too.
The firm has avoided talking clock speeds and all the other stuff we're used to hearing. The announcement is on its CES pags is here. µ
R U Drunk?
The Inquirer speaks the truth.
Why is it we are told the chips are smaller but they still come in the same package? And the power consumption still requires these monster heat sinks - just as you said. Sleek new designs - right....
"The firm also said that amongst other things the chips "help the environment ". They don't."

I LOL'd

It's true though, maybe they'll use less energy, but they'll still end up in a dump somewhere when end-user is forced to upgrade.

They never start working before they have at least a pint in their systems! ;-)
