AMD and HP ready corporate desktop push

HP contemplated buying AMD
Fri Apr 21 2006, 19:21
WE REPORTED a few weeks ago that AMD was ready to roll out a commercial desktop strategy in conjunction with Nvidia. Now it seems HP will pile into the show.

Don Clark of the Wall Street Journal has a lengthy piece on Intel and AMD and down towards the bottom of his analysis he quotes an HP executive as saying the firm is ready to go commercial desktop and all. (sub required)

Clark quotes HP executive John Dayan as saying it will make AMD desktops that will be sold to the corporate market. This news should send Dell into a paroxysm.

HP, apparently, even considered buying AMD in 2002 - the report adds. You will recall the chance encounter between Carly Fiorina and Hector Ruiz we reported at the launch of AMD's Opteron. Mind you, that was 2003. You will probably also recall that OEMs were under some pressure not to haul the flag up the AMD mast at the NYC launch in 2003. ยต
