Microsoft dishes Athlon64 Windows code out

PRE-BETA VERSIONS of Windows 64 for AMD's Athlon 64 operating system were given to developers at the WinHEC conference earlier this week, according to reports.

AMD is planning to introduce its Athlon64 this September.

Some people have asked what good a beta of an OS is without the chip it's optimised for, a question we put to AMD recently.

AMD's response was that developers would be able to test it thoroughly by using its Opteron chip, which is already available. µ
