One should be ever booted and spurred and ready to depart - Montaigne
The big blog will be fuelled by participants from all over the country who will record a one-day snippet of their life on the 17th of this month, which will be kept by the British Library as a record of national life here in the UK. October 17th had been picked for it's apparent insignificance, and being spectacularly not-out-of-the-ordinary. However, as everyone knows, the 17 October was the date of the Battle of La Forbie, where crusaders had been defeated by the Khwarezmians and the Egyptians. Tut tut, National Trust.
Participants are urged to make note in their entries how history has had an impact on them on that day, be it walking past a historic site, or "listening to mum's incessant 80's pop". Or Spice Girl records, for those younger mums in the country. The idea is to take a snapshot of everyday life at the beginning of the 21st century, so say them at the National Trust.
Taking part in the blog couldn't be much simpler - write a diary of your day on the 17th and upload it at the History Matters site. Entries can be submitted from the 17th right up until the 31st of October. Details on how to check out the archive will be released on the History Matters site sometime in the future, says the National Trust. µ
