THE MAKER OF Firefox, the Mozzarella Foundation has denied that the Open Source browser is getting more bloated than Elvis Priesley.

According to Wired, Firefox 3.0 is in danger of morphing into a Fat Elvis, with reports of sluggishness to slow page loads and frequent crashes and tendency to eat grilled peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

A Wired poll indicates that readers are furious at Firefox's mysterious habit of eating memory like it was Elvis's favourite snack. Complaints of slow performance and instability ranked highly as well.

Mike Schroepfer, Mozilla's vice president of engineering, admits that performance can be an issue, especially with memory handling. But says that most people's problem is caused by other software, add-ons, extensions and other things can impact performance.

Some of this is the demand for nice web features which are starting to make Firefox too complex, he said. ยต
