Nokia phones tell you to unplug

It's fully charged, stoopid
Fri May 11 2007, 10:17
YOU KNOW those simple things that somebody should have done years ago but nobody quite got around to and when they do, you say, ‘how come nobody did this before?'

Well, here's a funny thing. Nokia has issued a press release saying its latest 1200, 1208 and 1650 handsets are the first to come with alerts that tell you to unplug the charger. Gilding the lily, it adds that the move “could”, good word in PR that, “save enough electricity to power 85,000 homes a year”.

Of course, you could argue that a “battery full” message tells you pretty well all you need to know unless you're a total knucklehead and numptie, but some of us need a nag to go that extra yard and stop sucking socket juice.

Still, mobile phone makers could go a lot further if they would take a break from knocking out a gazillion new phones every year. Flashing screens that show phones are awake and constant signal polling on the signal-less Underground might be a start.

While on the subject of the flying Finns, Symbian Guru has the scoop on the Nokia N82. ยต
