Vole is using its Anytime Upgrade as a method of dropping prices to those who may have bought their Vista through an OEM arrangement and want more.
The program gives users a 10 percent discount on up to five additional Windows Vista licenses. Licenses can only be bought for the edition of Windows Vista that already owned, so you can't use it for an upgrade.
The deal has been available unofficially in the United States, but Vole wants to introduce it in the EU within a couple of weeks.
As Arstechnia points out that the deal is not that great considering that you are spending an $143 for nothing more than a sheet of paper with a licensing key on it.
It also follows other incentive programs like the "Windows Vista Family Discount," which offers Home Premium upgrade licenses for $49.95 to customers who have purchased Vista Ultimate.
Sales of Vista are proving a little slower than Vole would like. One of the reasons might be because of the fairly tough requirements that the operating systems DRM has about the number of times you can upgrade hardware before the machine thinks it is looking at a new operating system. It seems that with these schemes, Microsoft seems to be hoping that you will just buy a new and slightly cheaper licence. It is nice to see optimism first thing on a Monday morning.
