Great Firewall of China can be seen from browser

A PROJECT BY THE Harvard Law School to see which sites the Chinese government has blocked has come up with an intriguing list of sites which are filtered.

Dozens of sites including the BBC, Amnesty International, and the Guardian are on the list of sites which may be filtered.

The project, details of which can be found here, says that the authors are compiling a list of "filtered" sites.

This page here, has an extensive list of sites which appear to be filtered.

A number of Taiwanese and Tibetan sites also receive the blocking treatment from the Chinese government as well as overtly political sites.

Falun Gong sites are also on the banned list, as well as US government sites such as www.army.mil and sites such as Playboy and Penthouse.

In a document on the Harvard Law Site, the authors say that it is difficult to be certain that particular sites may or may not be filtered, because of other factors such as network bandwidth and the like.

The number of Tibetan and Taiwanese sites listed would indicate that there is a methodical attempt to block access to the Chinese population using filtering - no problem with bandwidth here, we'd guess. ยต
