DNS outage for Comcast

Not an attack apparently
Mon Apr 11 2005, 08:05
HUGE US ISP Comcast was effectively shut down for six hours after it had problems with its DNS servers.

Techies noticed the problems with the Philadelphia-based company's DNS servers on Friday which interrupted DNS service to Comcast high-speed Internet customers across the US.

The break down came a few hours after the SANS Institute's Internet Storm Center advised Internet service providers to make sure their DNS servers weren't vulnerable to new attacks.

According to Computerworld, Comcast is insistent that the problem was not an attack, or caused by maintenance designed to prevent such a hack. The spokesman would not say what the problem was but said it was identified and fixed after six hours. They probably just turned the servers off and on again. Read further here.
