HANS DE VRIES has produced a lengthy analysis on the 64-bit processor core embedded in AMD's Opteron and Athlon 64 chips.

The web site includes inner details of the chip which, in his own words, is for “those who really want to know what it takes to build a world class 64 bit out of order processor core”.
