Ebay allegedly in acquisition talks with Skype

Proposed offer for somewhere between $2 billion - $3 billion
Thu Sep 08 2005, 12:35
EBAY IS CURRENTLY in acquisition talks with Internet-telephony company Skype Technologies SA, and has proposed an offer for $2 billion to $3 billion.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the proposed deal is in a very sensitive stage at the moment and could easily fall through. EBay is just one of several technology companies Skype has been talking to, however, none of the other talks have led to any kind of deal.

EBay's massive and loyal userbase of 157 million could be a perfect target for the Skype telephony software, and as the Wall Street Journal points out, users could use Skype to talk to likeminded enthusiasts and auctioneers or call up scammers to shout at.

Neither eBay nor Skype are commenting on how the talks are progressing. µ
