Stand to attention for the Dual Core Waltz

IDF Analysis Military two step
Wednesday, 2 March 2005, 15:42
DUAL CORE WAS THE ORDER of the day at IDF yesterday, with everything being dual core, or becoming dual core soon. There were no surprises in the announcements, we had told you all the details a Raquel Welch period ago. The interesting thing is how many working samples it had on hand and was demoing. This is a really good sign for the future.

We showed pictures of Presler in another story earlier, that was the real shocker because of how far out it is, and the fact that it is 65nm. The core that I feel holds more promise is Yonah, which was up and running at the show. Here is a dev board with a Yonah CPU running on the Callistoga chipset, collectively called the Napa platform.

The other platform that is due in the not to distant future is Twin Castle which supports the Potomac chips. This picture below is a dual Potomac system with the chips under two of the four heatsinks on the lower right. Above them is the card slots with spacers and airflow management ducts in place. On the top left is the memory riser, the dimms being hidden by the aluminum plate on top. ยต
