Big Blue enables anonymous data sharing between companies

Privacy friendly apparently

SOFTWARE SERVICES giant IBM has released software it claims will allow organisations to anonymously share and compare information without revealing private or sensitive personal details.

According to IBM, DB2 Anonymous Resolution uses irreversible "digital signatures" to keep the information secret.

Apparently there are tons of companies who would like to share information with each other so that they can form industry wide plans.

It will also help them share information in support of homeland security and share information during mergers and help out in clinical research.

The engine in the software uses "Entity Resolution" to link together lumps of different data. It will be able to detect things like shared phone numbers, addresses or bank accounts. It is not clear how this can still be anonymous. But we are sure Big Blue knows what it is doing.
