HP's Carly goes on safari as Tru64 layoffs loom

OUR WILDEBEESTE following tell-tale spoor tell us that winsome Carly Fiorina will meet SA president Thabo Mbeki today in Limpopo province to discuss... who knows what?

Regular readers will recall that HP has a top notch scheme that turns recycled cartridges from inkjets into handsome carriage clocks, once they're remixed with elephant dung that is.

The kind of discussions She Who Must be Obeyed and Mbeki have are not privy to us this fine Saturday.

But what we are privy to is that it's widely expected that in the very near future indeed, 80 to 100 people working in Tru64 Unix are about to be shown the door.

So if our calculations are right, that's 25% of the people on the Tru64 Unix to HP/UX application migration problem who are going to get theirs.

Tru64 Unix customers will be told to move sooner rather than later. Many other groups in Nashua are also feeling the cool breezes from the veldt. One building out of three at the formerly prestigious site is now... er... totally empty. µ
