Earthquake brings down Great Firewall of China

China allows bogtastic freedoms
Monday, 19 May 2008, 15:24

EVER since China was hit by an earthquake, the Glorious People's Republic seems to have been allowing its workers to say what it likes on the world wide wibble.

According to observers, uncensored opinions of the workers are appearing everywhere and it appears that they are asking some good questions.

It looks like bloggers are concerned that most of the victims were kids. Others felt that donations to the disaster area would be pocketed by corrupt officials.

Observers are surprised. While the material is still not transparent, it certainly seems less censored than before.

In 1976 hundreds of thousands were killed and the Chinese didn’t know about it until many years afterwards.

This time, the government has even held a real-time online question session to answer questions about why so many schools collapsed in the quake.

There was still some censorship there, though. One person at the scene of the quake was complaining that there had been no food and water delivered as promised. His post was deleted. µ
