BROADCOM has paid just $141.5 million for AMD's digital television chip division.
When we broke news of the deal in August, the firms said they'd agreed on a price of $192.8 million in 'cash'.
But Broadcom has managed to get the business at a knock-down price as it's not been doing too well lately.
The firm said that it looks like the old ATI outfit will make a loss of up to $20 million this quarter, and so it managed to haggle down to $141.5 million in 'cash'.
Broadcom makes chips for more expensive tellies than AMD and through this deal wants to make a pitch for the low end.
Cheaper tellies are more likely to sell than dear ones now that greedy financiers have us all heading for recession. µ
