Opensourcestorage sells a Dual Opteron 1U rack featuring two 246 AMD Opterons - 2GHz parts - with 1MB cache, a Tyan S2881 Motherboard, 1GB REG ECC memory, one 1U black case with a 400W PSU and a 80GB SATA HDD. More impressive though is the fact that they load any operating system for free no extra charges. They can also set the unit up with any special settings and ship directly to your data center. The price? $1299.

If y ou plan to build your rig by yourself why not shop for this particular bundle consisting of two new AMD Opteron 244 1.8GHz CPU from Compaqparts for only $360 and add it to this brand new iWill ZMAX-DP Dual AMD opteron barebone which comes with the nVidia nForce 3 Pro chipset. $684.99 including free shipping. $1044.99 for a portable Dual Opteron rig.

Want to go Dell's way, then they are offering an entry level server, the PowerEdge SC1420 with two Intel Xeon 2.8GHz /1MB cache and 800MHz FSB processors for $1023. There's no OS, supplied byt you do get 1GB DDR2 memory, 80GB SATA HDD, a CDROM, keyboard and mouse. Not bad.

Two more picks for the day. The first one is a Dell Precision 530 with a Dual P4 Xeon 2.6GHz processors, each with 512KB L2 cache and HT enabled. You also get 1GB of PC800 ECC RDRAM - remember those - as well as two 36.7GB 10K RPM U160 LVD SCSI hard disks, a Quadro4 900XGL video card with twin DVI as wll as free Windows 2000 PRO OS with COA. The price asked is a cheap $999. Even less at $479 is a Dell Precision 530 which comes with two P4 Xeon 2.0GHz with 512MB of RDRAM installed and two 18GB 10K SCSI HDD. You get an unamed video adapter and a DVD Drive. Not bad for the price. No OS though. µ
