Guillemot in ATI-Nvidia tug-of-love

SOURCES TOLD the INQUIRER that Guillemot, which switched dramatically from Nvidia to ATI based products some time ago, is now exacting a price for that move.

It's a veritable tug-of-love, apparently.

The reports claimed that Guillemot wants ATI to give it first rights to sell and market R300 based graphics cards in the European market, as part of a quid-pro-quo.

That would make other ATI partners rather disappointed, if the reports prove to be true.

Both ATI and Nvidia play hard and fast in the little stream which is the European channel, with sales folk from both graphics firms aggressively tilting against each others' windmills like armies of demented Don Quixotes.

That allows partners, like Guillemot, and other firms, to play ATI and Nvidia off against each other, in what some channel players today described as a tug-of-love but others more like a game of hi-tech ping-pong.

ATI, Nvidia and Guillemot were not available for comment at press time, although we'll be very happy to talk to any and all of them. ยต
