TOSHIBA'S US subsidiary has recalled 142,000 AC adapters sold with portable DVD players because they may overheat when they fail.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said that the overheating might burn the user or damage the DVD player.

So far there have been no reports of injury, although there have been two cases of DVDs that were damaged by a dodgy adapter.

The AC adapter model ADPV16 in question was sold with portable DVD player model SD-P1600 for between $200 and $230, the Commission said.

The DVD players, distributed by Toshiba America were sold between January 2005 and April 2006 at consumer electronics stores throughout the United States.

Consumers with that model adapter should stop using the AC adapter immediately and contact Toshiba for a replacement.
