Samsung starts DDR 400 push

Claims "ramping" tiara
Tue Jul 16 2002, 09:09
SOUTH KOREAN memory giant Samsung said today it is collaborating with Nvidia, SIS and Via to bring the "400" flavour of double data rate (DDR) memory to the marektplace.

The firm said it is now making available DDR 400 chips in 128MB, 256MB and 512MB densities.

According to Samsung, it will demonstrate DDR 400 on boards at the Platform Conference in San Jose this week.

It said it is working with the three chipset companies to optimise DDR 400 for PCs.

Samsung claims the DDR 400 modules will give three times the performance of PC-133, and 50 per cent more than DDR 266.

The company rolled out three representatives from the three chipset companies to endorse the "400" flavour.

It also claimed it is the first memory manufacturer "currently ramping production".

This would explain why the DDR parts are as rare as hen's teeth, then, despite some product from other manufacturers apparently being available to some extent.

It said it would be first to market with these memory types. µ
