OCZ releases reduced latency 1GHz DDR 2 memory

Marchitectural memory leap
Tuesday, 7 March 2006, 09:50
MEMORY OUTFIT OCZ has managed to break the 1000MHz barrier with its DDR2 memory. The firm just announced a new DDR 2 series capable of 1000MHz (1GHz) speeds at CAS 4 latency (4-5-4).

It calls the memory PC2-8000 DDR 2 Platinum XTC Extreme Edition and it is clearly designed for the memory overclockers.

OCZ wants to be prepared for upcoming AMD DDR 2 CPUs, while you can already use the modules with many Intel Pentium CPUs. They all use DDR 2.

There will be two flavours of the memory: at DDR2-1000 the PC2 8000 Platinum XTC Edition operates at exceptional 5-5-5-15 timings. The PC2 8000 Platinum XTC Extreme Edition will be able to reach 4-5-4-15 timings. They will be offered at various capacities from 512MB modules to 2GB (2x1024MHz) dual-channel kits.

We don't have the pricing yet but they should be available shortly. µ
