Monday, 3 January 2005, 09:08
CHIP FIRM AMD said it has released its Au1200 chip, part of its Alchemy family.

It's a miser on power consumption, taking only 400 mW at 400MHz, and will support DDR-2 and DDR-1 memory types, the firm said.

The firm said it is intended for personal media players and can provide a DVD quality display in formats including MPEG2, MPEG4, WMV9, H263 and DivX.

It also supports USB 2.0 host/device, and has an LCD controller, a cemra interface, and AES-128 data encryption/decryption in hardware. It supports both Linux and Windows CE.net.

AMD said Go Video will use the chip in its next line of portable video players. FIC said it will also use the chip in its reference design, the Vassili, which will cost $499 and is being sold to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). ยต
