Interest in high-definition DVDs plummets

HOLLYWOOD IS GETTING jittery that people are ignoring the new high-definition formats in droves.

According to Reuters, the movie studios had hoped that high-definition DVDs would kickstart the sluggish market for movies at home. Instead they are getting mixed reviews because of technical issues and the format war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD.

Although HD-DVD was first off the mark, many didn't buy it because they thought that Blu-ray would win the format wars, because more studios backed it.

When Blu-ray came it out, it faced complaints of bad picture quality, component shortages for players and other technical issues. It was also expensive.

The main problem is the technology doesn't actually look anything different from bog standard DVDs for anyone to get excited about it enough.
