Microsoft attempts emoticon patent

THE VOLE has filed an application with the US Patent & Trademark Office to safeguard its rights on methods and devices for creating and transferring custom emoticons.

So-called emoticons are those terribly annoying combinations of letters on keyboards to make smiley faces and the like. In the good old days.

You couldn't make it up. And we haven't.

But the Vole has. µ
