AMD joins Bapco

Diplomatic corps move in
Thursday, 25 July 2002, 04:03
ANAND LAL SHIMPI has discovered that AMD is to join BAPCo, in a bid to influence its benchmarketing policies.

BAPCo has been perhaps unjustly linked with the Intel Corporation, compounded by both at one time sharing an address at Mission Boulevard.

In fact, we seem to remember that someone at AMD Europe pointed that coincidence out to us at the time, presumably for his own reasons....

But BAPCo is a non-profit organisation and Anand notes that relations between it and AMD now need handling carefully, as in his words, it could either add a lot of credibility to its efforts or ruin Sysmark as a benchmark.

And as one INQ reader notes, it's now going to be hard for anyone to say BAPCo is slanted against anyone, unless, that is, we count Transmeta into the equation.

We must not forget Via too, which is still an X86 player.

This will be one to keep our eyes on. Here's the Anandtech story. µ
