Google accused of media smear campaign

Schmidt triggers incandescent outrage
Mon Jun 11 2007, 11:13
PRIVACY INTERNATIONAL, which described Google as having a very poor record of protecting peoples' data over the weekend, has written an open letter to CEO Eric Schmidt accusing the firm of engaging in a media smear campaign.

In the letter, the organisation claimed two Euro journalists were contacted by Google claiming that Privacy International had a conflict of interest regarding Microsoft.

A member of the 70-strong panel at Privacy International is a Microsoft employee.

Simon Davies, director of Privacy International, accused Google of sour grapes because it got the lowest ranking. It's demanding Schmidt apologise. µ
