Art is making something out of nothing and selling it - Lewis Carroll
They show, as we've suggested before, that the arrival of the Pentium 4EE at 3.20GHz, is a placer because Intel is stalling on the launch of the Prescott.
This chip will formally launch in mid to late November, aimed at high end gamers and power users.
It's certainly high end - Intel is going to charge $925 for this chip.
While Intel claims its Prescott chip and 90 nano process will be ready in Q4 this year, the chip is now ready for a launch of between January to early February 2004. Intel has also brought the launch of the LGA 775 socket earlier than expected, with chips at 3.80GHz and above using the new design.
It will introduce Prescotts in the value sector in Q2 next year at 3.06GHz, and 2.80GHz, using a 533MHz front side bus and only having 256K level two cache.
The Grantsdale chipset is not due to launch until Q2 next year, as before.
The other interesting feature of the latest roadmap is that Intel has decided to stick with 533MHz front side buses for the P4.
It told its partners it's adding the mainstream 533MHz front side bus, non hyperthreaded Pentium 4s back into the roadmap. This, presumably, will let it differentiate the chips better. Note the cuts on October 26th are still on. Chips marked with an asterisk support hypethreading. µ
* CORRECTION Sorry about this. In the below chart, against P4P 3, the FSB should be 800MHz, while the FSB against the 3.06 should be 533. Figures transposed.
