Microsoft releases six critical patches

Sewing up flaws
Wed Aug 15 2007, 09:04
SOFTWARE GIANT Microsoft has issued patches for nine security flaws, including six critical ones.

Four of the patches keep hackers from breaking into computers through Web pages and are rated critical.

The other two critical updates handle flaws in Excel which allow users to see downloaded images from e-mails or social networking websites.

The other three updates are rated important and one of them is for the "super secure" Vista OS. This one is to fix the "gadgets" that deliver Really Simple Syndication, or RSS, feeds to the desktop. Apparently users who subscribe to a dodgy RSS feed can open the door for an attacker to run code on their systems.

The other important patches plug holes in Windows Media Player and in programs that let users run more than one "virtual" computer from inside a single hardware setup.
